The Beginning Of My Weight Loss Journey

Most of my life when people wanted to get under my skin they would comment on my weight. I tried to not let it get to me because I didn't care what people thought about me because one thing that has always stayed with me is other people's opinions don't define me, only mine do.

I knew I wasn't healthy for my age but I was not obese, growing up I would say to myself I want to lose weight. However, I didn't know where to begin and I thought it would be too much hassle for my parents to buy separate food for me so at that point in time I didn't.

Two rude experiences I've had with my weight that I can't forget. One was with a doctor, I was going up to ask for more of my anxiety medication, the doctor refused and without asking me any questions said that my anxiety stems from looking at models online and wanting to be more like them, so he told me to delete all my social media and that should fix my problem.

The second one was with a hypnotherapist, my family had heard that it can help with anxiety as well so we booked a session. We pulled up and I was taken to the room we were just chatting back and forth about my anxiety and she says

"I can also hypothesis people to stop eating chocolate so they can lose weight" while she looked me up and down

Both of these experiences shocked me because it was no longer just bullies at school. It was professionals who had been trained to deal with how to speak to patients and all they did was make me way more self-conscious. Now I hate going to the doctors alone and I refuse to hypnotherapy again.

I kept saying to myself for years "I'm going to lose weight this year" but every year without failure I would never start. I got so frustrated with myself like why couldn't I just stick to my plan, I realised a while later that my previous attempts to lose weight weren't motivated by myself but by the people around me and their comments and thoughts about my weight. With that conclusion I decided to stop trying until I was ready.

When the pandemic hit and everyone was in lockdown I felt like it was the time so outside opinions and I was genuinely ready to start my weight loss journey. So I told my parents how I felt and they agreed to help out, they stopped buying really unhealthy food and it all began.
