Top 5 things I find nostalgic

Here is the 5 things that I find nostalgic:

Pirate Pete's

Another nostalgic memory is when I was growing up, my mum and dad would be off at the weekend, and each time the weekend came, we would always have family days out. Maybe to bowling or the zoo but my all-time favourite was an entertainment centre called pirate Pete’s in place in Scotland called Ayr which was a 40–50-minute drive away. Even though it seems like a long drive for kids constantly saying, “Are we there yet?”. Once you get there, it is totally worth the wait every time.

When we first started going, it took my brother and me a while to clock on to where we were going, but as we started to go more often, my brother

and I were bursting with excitement screaming, “Are we going to Pirate Pete’s?” before we even left our car park. As soon as we got there, we would run to the soft play area. We would be there for hours running and jumping around. It wasn’t only Pirate Pete’s that was the special part of the day. It was also special spending the day in Ayr walking on the beach, getting ice cream and playing mini golf. This was a special and nostalgic memory for me because it was quality time spent with my family that we would eventually grow out of, but it reminded me that I'm lucky to have amazing parents that would treat me and my brother every weekend, and that would put us first. I hope when I have kids, I can treat them to Pirate Pete’s in Ayr that they will always remember.

Little Mix

A band I find nostalgic is Little Mix. They were on X Factor in 2011 so I was eight, I watched that every week to see if they got through to the next round. I was so happy when they got to the finale and won. They were the first girl group to win the competition which made me very excited. I grew up blasting and dancing to their songs. I grew up with them for 10 years of my life before they took a break. On my birthday/Christmas I got tickets to see their Be Weird tour in 2016. I remember jumping around the room because not only did I love their music, but I looked up to them as women in the world and still do. Little Mix is nostalgic memory because it brings back so many happy moments and back to when there was nothing to be worried about. It makes me remember dancing around the house with my mum laughing and singing. I was sad that I wasn't able to go to their tour before they took a break after their 10-year anniversary but I’m hoping to go to their next tour once they come back.

Picking out presents for Christmas or birthdays

When my brother Ross and I were growing up, and it was our birthday or Christmas, my parents would call me and my brother to sit in the living room, looking through the catalogue from a shop called Argos that always had a massive variety of presents to choose from. They had all the toys that we could ever dream of in that big book that they would update every year with new presents. We would go through it and circle the things we wanted for our birthday/Christmas, there were always so many things to choose from that it would take ages. I remember circling dolls I could dress up or do their hair, Disney princess costumes, board games like Elefun, any music things from Disney TV show or films and toy animals like dogs or monkeys. Looking back at best now got I'm older doing it, the time we spent doing this is so special now because it was quality time with the family and the surprise of not knowing what I was going to get because I circled so many possible presents. We would also look through it and laughed at some of the toys.

Ice-cream Truck

When I was younger, most days I would go to my best friend's house or she would come to mine. All day we would play all the usual kid games like princesses, tig and hide and seek. However, the most memorable and nostalgic part was when we would hear the ice cream truck song, hearing that would give us a burst of excitement and we would run to our mum’s they would give us both some money to get ourselves a treat. We would run downstairs out of the door down the street to the truck to ask the ice cream man for what we wanted.

Once we got our treat we would walk and run around outside eating them and playing games. I find this nostalgic because this is a core constant memory that I always remember and it makes me miss being a kid and having no stress, no urgency to get home or grab my phone to scroll on social media to see what everyone else is up to, I forget about this feeling until I think about this moment. You would go to school the next day, and everyone would just talk about what they did, and it was exciting hearing about everyone’s day. I look at this and strive to go back and remember what it is like to just live in the moment. It was just simple.

Disney

Growing up I always watched the Disney channel with the classic TV shows like Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, suite life of Zack and Cody and films like High School Musical trilogy, Disney princess films i.e., Beauty and the Beast which was my favourite and princess diaries. Every week they would show the schedule for the week, and my eyes would scan the screen looking out for my favourites. I would keep a mental note of the things I wanted to watch and what time each one was on.

I would rush home after school making sure I didn’t miss anything. This was a nostalgic memory for me because it wasn’t just me that would sit and watch it, my family would all sit together and watch the TV. I think my mum and dad enjoyed the shows/films because they got to see me and my brother enjoying it and they still enjoy watching them now even though we are grown up because it brings happy memories. We mostly revisit High School Musical trilogy debating which one is better, singing along with the soundtrack just like when we were kids.
